The detection unit is installed on Heaters or Boilers for monitoring Burning. Flame Rod and Flame Scanner both used for Flame Detection. But Flame Rod is used on Pilots while Flame Scanner are installed on main Burner for monitoring main Burning in furnaces. Detection of flame is very important in every industry. As Flame has certain characteristics that we are use for detecting device, coupled with a suitable flame control mechanism produces a signal.

In Refineries there are three types of Devices that are used for monitorings Combustion in Heater furnances.

There are two type of Flame Detection systems:
a) IR
b) UV
Working Principles:
UV Flame Scanners Sense Ultraviolet Radiation that are produced by Flame. The wave length of ultraviolet Radiation is less than 300 nm. A photo–tube are used in UV detector. The photo–tube is sensitive for Light. UV Radiation hit Photocathode and electrons Release that move towad Anode. And output signal is Generated in Form of Pulse and sent to Detector.
